COWABUNGA! The Beach Party: Surfing Through the Scriptures was a great time for the 161 children attending the Vacation Bible School at Good Samaritan UMC in Lake Wylie, SC. All the Dudes and Dudettes were up early for the Surf's Up assembly learning the "Beach Be-Atitude" for each day. They were dancing their way through the Sound Waves, learning about the environment and how God protects us with Mr. Wizard's Surf'n Science Lab. Of course, they enjoyed the Scripture Search, Roc'n Rec and Beachcomber Crafts, too.
It was not only a success for the children who attended, but aso for the Good Sam people. A small church with attendance of about 70 took on the challenge to minister to the YMCA (4-8 year olds) from the surrounding communities. About 29 members, ranging in age from 13 to 83, men, women and young adults showed up each day to witness to these children.
Our mission goal of 25 nets for Nothing But Nets ministry was met by the children and became 50 nets after the Frida night celebration with parents and friends. Over 300 children and families shared hot dogs, hamburgers and fellowship as the children bounced and slid their way through the obstacle courses and jump houses.
With prayers and the belief that through God all things are possible, a small-member church of believing membes ran a first-class VBS!!
The UMW of Good Shepherd UMC, Lancaster, awarded the UMW Special Mission Recognition Pin and Certificate for 2008 to Mrs. Carolyn Scott in worship on "Celebrate Women" Sunday, May 4.
Pleasant Hill UMC, Fort Mill, collected 305 Box Tops for Education, 65 Campbell Soup Labels, and 2 Tyson A+ labels for Missions in May.
