St. John's Preschool is available for children who are fifteen months to four years of age. Children are placed into classrooms based on age as of September. Children must be 15 months by September 1st to be enrolled in the Ones program.
Each classroom has two teachers. All teachers and staff have had a background check, and are CPR and First Aid certified.
Although a student may be enrolled at anytime during the school year if an opening is available, registration for the new school years starts in February of each year.
It is the mission of St. John's Preschool to provide a safe nurturing Christian environment that encourages the intellectual, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development of each child through play and active learning. Children in the 2 -, 3-, and 4-year old program will go to chapel once a month for a short devotional to be led by senior pastor the Rev. Larry Hayes. In addition, these children receive Kindermusik, a Spanish lesson, and a P.E. class (provided by Winthrop P E majors) each week.
The children are provided with opportunities to learn through hands on experiences in art, stories, puppets, songs, music, cooking, gym time, outside play, and using manipulatives. A communication folder is sent home weekly to inform parents of the upcoming classroom activities, Bible themes and important dates along with creations the children have made in the classroom.
